PT CRUISER OWNERS:
DaimlerChrysler
Asked and They Came
Chrysler
kicked off its first-annual PT Cruiser ownership event September 28 at Six Flags
Great America in Gurnee, Illinois. They expected a showing of some 10,000 folks
with their Cruiser in tow. What they got instead, was a count closer to 13,000
owners/enthusiasts. Whatever was PT Cruiser was there: magazines, t-shirts,
coats and model cars. Even remote control Cruisers, banging into walls and tires.
A regional eventthe first for Cruiserdrew folks from Iowa, Michigan, Indiana, Wisconsin and Illinois. PT owners/ drivers/enthusiasts swapped stories and pictures, while showing off their rides. Families from across the Midwest came cruising into Gurnee in one long caravan, across I294. It was an awesome sight to see: red ones, white ones, silver, black, blue, green and Inca Gold! Not only were they here to share their love of their PTs, but also to enjoy a day of wild rides, live musical entertainment and, demonstrations. Engineering round tables were held, and all were full. Most owners wanted to put their two cents in regarding future PTs.
Chryslers
way of "saying thank you," to PT owners went over very well, according
to those folks on hand to run things. This was a dream come true for devotees
of the Cruiser. The line for the Chrysler PT Cruiser photo op was blocks long
each time we passed. People were waiting to have their picture taken inside
a Concept PT Cruiser Convertible with a roller coaster backdrop.
All kinds of good stuff took place at the PT Block Party, including a preview of concept PTs, and a chance to experience the performance and capabilities of the full Chrysler lineup of vehicles. Driving courses were available to all, given guests a chance to take the Chrysler 300 for a test drive, along with the Sebring sedan and convertible, and the Town & Country minivan. The 2003 PT Cruiser Turbo was also available for driving.
Fireworks, and an outdoor
musical extravaganza showcasing the music of Chuck Berry, the Shirelles, The
Countours, The Tokens and Little Anthony & The Imperials brought back a
flood of memories. Emceed by Casey Kasem, no less. Also available was a customized
"Speed Shop" to highlight the numerous ways to customize your Cruiser.
Representatives from Professional
aftermarket
companies held workshops and performed demonstrations to show PT Cruiser owners
how to individualize their own engines, grilles, hoods, headlights and taillights.
Some of the big name accessories companies were represented, such as pteazer, offering all sorts of good stuff to customize a PT, including front fascias that resemble the New Beetle, a panel conversion kit and a euro-flare sport package. The possibilities are endless.
A good time was had by all. Its a sure bet Chrysler will be having a second annual PT Block Party. I hope Im invited.
