Kudos to 26-year-old Raoul Hyman for leading TJ Speed Motorsports to its second consecutive team championship in the 2022 Formula Regional Americas season by claiming 9 out of their 14 wins. The team also had 9 runner-ups and 4 third place finishes in the 18 races series.
Born May 12, 1996 in Durban, South Africa, the 26-year-old British driver proved he still had his meddle to the pedal despite a 2-1/2-year hiatus from racing (due in part to the COVID pandemic). Although he previously won the 2018 F3AsianChampionship and competed in the 2019 F1A Formula 3 Championship driving for Sauber’s Junior Team with Charouz Racing Systems, Hyman ended up without a ride in 2020. Uncertain of his racing career at that time, he was finally tapped by TJ Speed’s owner Tim Neff to pilot their No 27 Bethesda Holdings Limited/Solomon Capital Enterprises/Oakland/Knoss Ligier JS F3 car. The result was “magic.”
“One of the highlights of being part of the Inline image TJ Speed Team, was that everyone was like family. We worked together really well, and the engineers were brilliant,” he shared during the awards ceremony November 4th.
In addition to being crowned champion of the 2022 Formula Regional Americas Championship powered by Honda, Hyman was presented with this year’s $600,000 Scholarship prize. He is now expected to compete in Super Formula’s post season rookie test at Suzuka in Japan Dec. 7-8..
